It told me to open the Disk Utility, and to choose the drive and then choose 'Erase'. I want to format it to work on my Macbook Pro for Time Machine, so I looked into how to do that. I have since reformatted it on my PC just to get all the info off of it. As a result I now face the prospect of losing data unless I pay out. WD USB hard drive showing as local disk I plugged my WD 'my passport' 5oogb hard drive into USB yesterday and it showed up as local disk on my computer with 0Gb used and 0Gb available. My Passport Ultra was previously used on my Windows 7 PC. Whilst this is obviously something I should consider, I am not pleased that WD seem very blasé about me losing my data! When I raised this as a question I was sent a link to a number of data recovery companies. ![]() Because none of the solutions advised by WD Support have worked, the latest is that they are suggesting I return the WD My Passport Ultra for a replacement as it is still under warranty.
